Tingathe's Clinical Mentorship Model

Tingathe's clinical mentorship model focuses on improving the capacity of health facility teams to manage pediatric and adolescent HIV care, providing program oversight and guidance to teams of CHWs, and strengthening health systems.  Each mentorship team is comprised of a clinician, a nurse and a Community and HTC Program Officer (CHPO). Travelling from facility to facility, the team provides cadre-to-cadre level clinical mentorship as well as facility level systems strengthening assistance. For consistency, each mentorship team is assigned to specific health facilities to visit regularly.

Clinical Support
The mentorship team helps mentees and health facilities achieve site level HIV testing and ART initiation goals, provides Ministry of Health clinical staff with real-time clinical support and answers to specific patient management questions through the Baylor-Malawi Pediatric Hotline, improves pediatric HIV case management, and helps identify suspected treatment failure cases, interpret viral load results and provide guidance for their management.

Systems support
The mentorship team contributes to positive changes in organization of the ART clinic, improves documentation, supports sites to ensure adequate stocks of HIV commodities and creates interdisciplinary linkages across facilities. It supports the Ministry of Health with regular supervision, supply distribution and data management.
